Neil Welliver

Neil Welliver moved to Maine in the early 1960's and began his 40 year exploration of the Maine landscape. His works are represented in numerous collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the Farnsworth Art Museum. He ranks among America's preeminent landscape painters. Here is a wonderful biographical essay by Maine writer Edgar Allen Beem.

The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine had an exhibition from April 13, 2019 to February 9, 2020 that included works by Neil Welliver, Alex Katz and other New York based artists who discovered the joys of painting in Maine in the summers after WWII.
