STEPHEN
ETNIER

Am. 1903-1984

Born in York, Pennsylvania, Etnier came to Maine in the mid-1930's.  He was a private apprentice of Rockwell Kent and John Carroll,  Widely recognized as one of Maine's best realist painters, his works are in numerous museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was the first museum to purchase one of his paintings. The Portland Museum of Art mounted a major retrospective exhiition of his work in 1998 entitled, Journeys Over Water, The Paintings of Stephen Entier.  We are fortunate to have one of the paintings from that exhibition available for sale.
